WHAT are we and WHY?

Sandra ClarkFarragut, Let's Talk

(Note: Once a month Knox TN Today mails a newspaper into 5,000 homes and businesses in a targeted area. December was for Farragut and the papers hit homes on Thursday, December 15. Sometimes I need to explain to readers why this paper has arrived in their home. Here’s what I wrote for Farragut. How am I doing?)

A funny thing happened on my way to retirement. I put everything I had (not much) at risk to start a local news website. On May 1, 2017, Knox TN Today was launched.

You might be wondering WHAT is this thing and WHY does it matter to you?

Maybe it doesn’t matter. Perhaps you’re all set on local news with your phone and social media. I won’t beg or guilt you into reading us. A dancer’s gotta dance. A singer’s gotta sing. A publisher’s gotta publish.

I’m doing this for me and the readers who love it. Give me 10 minutes and you may join those ranks.

  • We write about people, not process
  • We stay local, to Knox and adjacent counties
  • We publish obituary links daily from funeral homes in 9 counties.
  • We’re home to the best writers in town: Marvin West, Betty Bean, Tom King, Beth Kinnane and Maria Cornelius to name a few. The late Sherri Gardner Howell helped us get started.
  • We’ve had 7 key advertisers since Day One: Aubrey’s, Covenant Health, First Horizon, Food City, Pellissippi State, Ray Varner Ford and Realty Executives Associates.

We do not:

  • No paywall. Our content is free to readers
  • No distracting banners or pop-up ads on the website
  • No clickbait teasers that promote various vices.

We believe in (color):

  • Capitalism (green)
  • The University of Tennessee (Big Orange)
  • Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (red, white & blue)
