West High and Powell High schools are two of the biggest rivals in Knoxville high school sports, so a one-point victory in overtime last weekend was a huge story in the local sports news. The victory also secured the Region 2-5A championship an a 1-seed in the playoffs for West High Rebels.

I am sure West High football player Nick Ernst expressed the feelings of all the players: “It was great winning against a big rival in overtime! It’s fun to be able to celebrate with friends and family on the field after an exciting win.”

Some moms get extra pleasures from the excitement of high school sports. Shawnda Ernst, mom to two West High students said, “What a night! A big overtime win against a big rival, PLUS a picture of both kids together after a game! A win for West and a win for mom!”

Congratulations West High School and the Ernst family too!
