On May 8, members of Rural Metro Fire, Knox County Rescue and the Powell Business and Professional Association completely refurbished the outdoor classroom at the park.
The land back to Beaver Creek – about 11 acres in all – previously was an overgrown mess until Enhance Powell and others jumped in and cleaned it up. Inmates from the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center did the heavy lifting, but it was a community effort. A grant from the Knox County Health Department purchased equipment for a 9-hole disc golf course through the woods.
Since it was cleaned up, Knox County Parks & Rec has done a fantastic job of keeping it mowed and maintained.
Jeff Bagwell of Rural Metro Fire is also president of the PBPA. He gave a shoutout to Lowe’s of North and East Knoxville for donating the Trex for the benches and stage surface.
“Great things happen with the community comes together, and that’s what happen today in Powell,” said Bagwell.
Powell Station Park: It’s free, close to home and open dawn to dusk. Come check it out.
