Dr. Danielle Rutig is the new principal of Central High School. She joined Knox County Schools in 2019 as an assistant principal at Central, where she currently serves. She replaces Dr. Andrew Brown, CHS principal for four years, who was reassigned to be senior executive to the superintendent.

Rutig started as a teacher in Florida in 2005, and subsequently worked for eight years as a teacher for Anderson County Schools. She was as assistant principal in Anderson County since 2015.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Florida State University; a master’s degree in education administration and policy and an education specialist degree in education administration and policy, both from the University of Tennessee; and a doctorate in educational leadership from East Tennessee State University.

Dr. John “J.D.” Faulconer has been appointed principal of Dr. Paul L. Kelley Volunteer Academy effective July 2023. He replaces principal Meagan Booth, who was named supervisor of employee relations.

Faulconer joined Knox County Schools in 2013 as the founding principal of Career Magnet Academy. He previously worked five years as a teacher and 12 years in administration for Anderson County Schools and the Corbin Independent School System. He is currently the career and technical education specialist of curriculum and instruction for KCS.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Kentucky, a master’s degree in educational leadership from Tennessee Technological University, and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy analysis from East Tennessee State University.

Clarification: In a previous story, I wrote that Andrew Brown took a job that had not previously existed. That was unclear. The position had been held by Kori Lautner with a job title of executive liaison. Lautner moved over to become interim assistant superintendent for strategy when Dr. Liz Norton left KCS.

These job titles are confusing enough without folks willy-nilly changing them. Apologies for the confusion.
