Trevor Bayne and SouthEast Bank ‘Drive Out Hunger’

Susan EspirituFarragut, Our Town Neighbors

Second Harvest Food Bank! Each week my school had over 100 backpacks that went home with students for the weekend to supplement meals until they returned to school on Monday. Second Harvest provided the food for those backpacks. It is an incredible organization dedicated to fighting hunger and food insecurity.

Second Harvest Food Bank is a nonprofit organization working to collect surplus food from various sources, such as food manufacturers, farmers, grocery stores and even individual donations.

Once the food is collected, Second Harvest distributes it to community agencies, including food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens and other organizations that directly serve those in need, such as schools.

Support Second Harvest Food Bank by joining NASCAR driver Trevor Bayne at the “Drive Out Hunger” food drive event at SouthEast Bank’s Farragut branch, 12700 Kingston Pike, on Saturday, September 9, from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m.  Info: Drive Out Hunger.

Alongside the food drive, there will be activities for the whole family, including a bounce house, free food, music, signed memorabilia from Trevor Bayne and more!

Remember, every contribution, big or small, can make a difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity. So bring your non-perishable food donations, primarily peanut butter and other protein-rich food with a longer shelf life, and plan for a fun day!

All of us have a story and I want to tell yours! Send them to susan@knoxtntoday.com
