One of the things I enjoy most about Sunday Conversation is that it gives us the chance to learn from one another. Every East Tennessean has a favorite place, restaurant, park, or scenic spot that may not appear on a tourist map but holds a special place in their heart.

Last week, we asked what one place you would recommend if a friend had only one day to explore East Tennessee. While we’re still building this weekly tradition, we received a thoughtful response that proves some of the best recommendations are right in our own neighborhoods.

A reader from Powell shared a reminder that “Powell’s parks can’t be beat.” The list included Angora Frog Farm, a favorite for little kids with big imaginations; Collier Preserve, a peaceful park known for its native plants and bird watching; Sports Courts, with outdoor basketball, tennis and pickleball; and Powell Station Park, home to a splash pad, picnic shelter and a wooded nine-hole disc golf course.

It’s exactly the kind of local knowledge we hope to share through Sunday Conversation. Recommendations from neighbors often introduce us to places we’ve driven past but never stopped to enjoy.
