Cynthia Moxley praises the music at a recent fundraiser for the Volunteer Ministry Center. The band was the Tennessee Stifflegs, named for those “fainting goats.”

Moxley captures the spirit of the evening – the 9th annual Don Sproles Memorial Wine and Shine at the Crowne Plaza downtown. It’s all here in The Blue Streak: The food, the wine pairings, the moonshine, the buffet, auctioneer Bear Stephenson, cartoonist Charlie Daniel and funnyman Sam Venable. Even retired UT professor (and wine expert) Dr. Carol Costello via Zoom from Florida.

Don Sproles walked away from a downtown law practice to join wife Karen in their restaurant business, The Lunchbox. He served on the board of the Volunteer Ministry Center as well as numerous local nonprofits. He passed away Aug. 2, 2012, at age 61.
