Services Saturday for Les Dale

Sandra ClarkObits

Leslie S. Dale was called Mr. Memphis (and he was that), but when he lived in Knoxville, he left quite a legacy. He died June 3, 2022, just two days past his 94th birthday.

Les was born in Goodlettsville, near Nashville. He was an officer in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He accepted a management position with Southern Bell Telephone Company in 1956 and served in various positions within the Bell system in Memphis, Clarksville, Nashville, Oak Ridge and Knoxville, and returned to Memphis in 1980.

While living here, he chaired the board for the Chambers of Commerce in both Knoxville and Oak Ridge. He was a Rotary Club member for 60 years and chaired the Knoxville United Way campaign. He was general chair of Oak Ridge’s year-long 25th anniversary celebration. His obituary shows leadership at every stop. Funeral services will be held at Germantown United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, with visitation preceding at 1 p.m.
