Halloween is going to the dogs at the John T. O’Connor Senior Center, where four-legged friends will trade their everyday collars for costumes and a chance to show off their Halloween spirit.

The center will host its second annual Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Contest and Parade on Friday, Oct. 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., bringing together older adults, community members and their pets for a celebration filled with costumes, creativity and plenty of laughs.

The event will take place at the O’Connor Senior Center, 611 Winona St. in Knoxville.

Pets and their owners are invited to dress for the occasion and participate in a costume contest, with prizes awarded in several categories. Whether the costumes are spooky, silly or simply adorable, the goal is to have fun and enjoy the company of fellow animal lovers.

Even those who don’t consider themselves dog enthusiasts may find something to smile about.

“I’m not really a dog person, but this is a paws-a-tively good time,” said Debbie K., who shared her enthusiasm for the event.

Visitors can watch the parade, enjoy the creative costumes and purchase cookies from Ham ‘N Goody’s.

The event also serves a larger purpose. Proceeds will support the ongoing operations of the O’Connor Senior Center, which provides programs and activities for older adults in the Knoxville community.

It’s an opportunity to enjoy some Halloween fun while supporting a place that helps keep local seniors active, engaged and connected.

As the organizers say, come for the costumes, stay for the howl!
