Fountain City is getting something sweet, and residents won’t have to chase down an ice cream truck to enjoy it.

Irvey’s Ice Cream Co. will celebrate the grand opening of its first standalone storefront Friday through Sunday, October 9-11, at 3000 Tazewell Pike.

Founder and CEO Trent Sanders is bringing the locally owned business to a neighborhood that has been without its beloved Fountain City Creamery since a fire destroyed it.

“Fountain City deserves ice cream,” Sanders said. “Ever since the Fountain City Creamery burned down, there’s been a gap here.”

Irvey’s already operates at Kern’s Food Hall in South Knoxville, along with three food trucks and an ice cream van. Its new Fountain City location gives the growing business another permanent connection to the community.

Customers can choose from 32 flavors, including 10 dairy-free selections. The menu features traditional favorites alongside unusual options, including pickle-flavored ice cream. Shakes, floats, four-scoop flights and 10-scoop share-a-bowls add to the choices.

The grand-opening weekend promises more than frozen treats. Friday’s festivities include a 3 p.m. ribbon-cutting, bubbles and lawn games. Saturday brings chalk art, while Sunday’s activities include music and children’s entertainment.

The shop’s announced grand-opening hours are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday.
