Halls Business & Professional Association threw a Halloween party and the whole town came. “We weren’t sure how many businesses would participate” in the inaugural Trunk or Treat event, said Denise Girard. “We hoped for five, then 15. We ended up with 30.”

The business sponsors pulled into the circle at Clayton Park on Saturday to hand out candy and treats. Marco’s Pizza had complimentary pizza slices, and franchise owner Steve Petrone gave out discount coupons.

Kathy Fitzgerald held down the Knox TN Today booth. “We brought 1,000 pieces of candy and took just a handful home,” she said. “This was fun.”

It was fun and safe for kids. One boy compared it to Boo at the Zoo. And the kids scampered over to the playground where the sight of space creatures and super heroes on the slide was a scream.

Everybody came away with ideas for next year. Thanks to Darren Cardwell of Hallsdale Powell Utility District who coordinated the event and brought HPUD’s big light. Thanks also to the Sheriff’s Office (which distributed shiny badges and a safety coloring book to participants) and to Rural Metro. Biggest thanks to the Halls BPA and Knox County Parks & Rec – great partners for family fun in Halls.
