Ken Jobson: Psychiatrist, business owner, lifelong learner

Kenneth Owens Jobson M.D. passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. He was 80. Dr. Jobson earned his doctor of medicine degree from Emory University and began his career as a U.S. Army flight surgeon in the Vietnam War.

Upon discharge, he practiced medicine in Florida and completed his residency in psychiatry at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He moved to Knoxville to co-found the National Psychopharmacology Laboratory which was purchased by a larger company.

In 1985, Dr. Jobson founded the International Psychopharmacology Algorithm Project, in order to make peer-reviewed, current best practices in psychiatric medicine accessible worldwide. He served on the clinical faculty of the University of Tennessee, and co-edited Textbook of Treatment Algorithms in Psychopharmacology (1999).

Funeral Service will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 800 S Northshore Dr., Knoxville, on Saturday, September 16, at 2 p.m.
