Inskip Lions Club recognized several members’ achievements at the club’s June meeting. 12N District Gov. Rich Wilson was on hand to assist with the presentations.

Martha Jean Bratton, a club member for 30 years, was honored as a Melvin Jones Fellow for her commitment to the Inskip community and her dedication to humanitarian service. The award is named for the founder of Lions Clubs. It recognizes donations of $1,000 to the Lions Club International Foundation in honor of individual Lions for their exemplary humanitarian service.

Bratton, a former principal of Inskip Elementary, said, upon receiving the surprise award: “I left a part of my heart at the school. I love these kids. I love these teachers. I love this school and the community.”

Three current Inskip Lions members who have also been honored as Melvin Jones fellows are Bonnie Peters, Tom Walker and Johnny Cecil.

Johnny Cecil was recognized for 60 years of membership in the Lions Club, and Frances Walker was recognized for 10 years of service.

Lions Club member Suzanne Matheny provided information for this article.
