They came, they saw, they scampered.

Goats made the day at the South Knoxville Alliance’s Run With the Goats on Sunday at the South Knoxville location of STAR – Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding, on Tipton Station Road.

Eighty human runners did a short jog across a field to fetch feed to lure their goats through an obstacle course in the spacious STAR arena. The obstacle course was done in heats.

Lee Burnett won first place. Bianca Rufino placed second, Grace Mayor third and Brenda Mosher fourth.

Little Ponderosa Zoo in Clinton provided 25 goats for the competition. Alan Williams of WVLT served as master of ceremonies.

Several SKA member businesses sponsored the event and the individual obstacles on the course. SKA and STAR are splitting the money raised from registration and admission fees.

SKA secretary Elizabeth Sherrod was grateful for the turnout and the event’s success. However, she’s not sure if SKA will repeat the run.

“I’m exhausted,” she said.
