Girls from several local Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians troops and staff visited the Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team afternoon practice before they headed out to the NCAA tournament. The girls brought good luck gifts: Cookies.

Coach Kellie Harper is such a fan of GS cookies that it is actually a sweet tooth superstition to have the cookies in her room during the NCAA tournament games.

GSSA Chief Communications Officer Gretchen Crawley said the Lady Vols are always supportive of the Girl Scouts. They invited the girls to watch practice and have a meet and greet including photos. Several of the Lady Vols are Girl Scouts plus #5 Kaiya Wynn appeared in the council video.

The superstition must be valid as the Tennessee women notched a decisive victory over Green Bay Phoenix on Saturday by a score of 92-63. However, Harper must not have saved some of the good luck cookies as the Lady Vols fell to NC State Wolfpack on March 25 by 7, missing a trip to the Sweet 16. Final score: 72-79.
