Girl Scouts participating in this year’s Fall Product Program have a new source for the nuts, chocolates and sweet treats that help support their scouting activities.
Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians is highlighting Ashdon Farms as its new nuts and candy vendor. The company supplies Girl Scout councils with familiar favorites as well as its own products for the fall fundraising program.
Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians is one of 64 Girl Scout councils working with Ashdon Farms.
The relationship between Ashdon Farms and Girl Scouts isn’t new. The company was founded in 1921 and has worked with Girl Scouts since 1996. Today, it is the fourth-largest nut company in the United States.
Its chocolate factory is located in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
For chocolate lovers, Ashdon Farms says it uses real chocolate in all Girl Scout boxed chocolate and tin products. The company also offers 19 Girl Scout-branded products that are naturally gluten-free, including 10 available on the Fall Product Program order card.
Food safety and sourcing also are part of the company’s story. Ashdon Farms has been Safe Quality Food certified since 2010 and consistently receives the highest-level “Superior” rating from AIB International, formerly the American Institute of Baking.
The company became a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil in 2017 and uses 100% certified sustainable palm oil in the boxed and tin chocolate products it offers Girl Scouts. Ashdon Farms also holds organic certification for nut and chocolate products.
Of course, Girl Scouts aren’t asking supporters to memorize the company’s certifications before ordering a container of nuts or candy.
The Fall Product Program is designed to help Girl Scouts develop skills while raising money to support troop activities and other scouting experiences. And this year, those lessons in entrepreneurship come with some new treats to sell.
For anyone curious about how one of those treats gets made, Ashdon Farms also offers a behind-the-scenes video showing how its English Butter Toffee is produced.
