Gather those sunflowers while ye may

Carol EvansEast Knox, Get Out & Play

Knoxville sunflowers are growing tall with all the recent rains. Any sunflowers that still have some blooming formation can contribute to this year’s Labor Day Sunflower Project art installation at the Knoxville Botanical Gardens & Arboretum (KBGA). Sunflowers developing mature seed heads are welcome as well.

On Monday, September 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., bring native, domesticated, cultivar or nativar, sunflowers and sunflower seed heads to the KBGA in East Knoxville at 2743 Wimpole Avenue, 37914. Cut flowers and seed heads with an 18-inch stem to be woven into a massive circle of flowers.

There will be live music, lots of flowers, friends, neighbors, and a uniquely Knoxville art installation to create. The event is free. And keep sending sunflower pictures to share at: labordaysunflower@icloud.com.
