Food City customers raised over $400,000 for Hurricane Harvey relief in Houston. Powell store manager Donny Rector said, “Our customers here in Powell and the Knox area were a big part of this. Our community and customers should be proud.”
Steven Smith, Food City’s chief executive officer, thanked associates in a message Monday. He said the company pledged a $10,000 contribution to kick off the fund-raising efforts. “I am humbled and amazed to report that thanks … to the tremdous generosity of our loyal customers and associates, Food City has raised an astounding projected grand total of $445,895.53 to date.
“One hundred percent of these monies will be allocated among The Salvation Army, Samaritan’s Purse and The Houston Food Bank.”
