Movie night is going outdoors in Farragut, with a familiar Volkswagen taking center stage.
The Farragut Museum will show “Herbie: Fully Loaded” on Friday, Sept. 18, as part of Movies at the Museums, the annual fall community outreach program presented in partnership with Historic Houses of Knoxville.
The free event will take place on the greenspace behind the Healthy Place to Play playground at Farragut Town Hall. Activities begin at 7:30 p.m., giving families time to enjoy the playground, see vintage cars, visit the Farragut Museum, and grab something to eat from a food truck before the movie begins at approximately 8:15 p.m.
“I am excited the Farragut Museum is able to join this special event in Knoxville. We will have a food truck, and we have also asked the VW Dubz Club to bring antique VW cars to showcase,” said Kristi Vining, historic resources coordinator for the town of Farragut.
There is also a hometown connection to the movie. “Herbie: Fully Loaded” was co-written by Robert Ben Garant, a 1988 graduate of Farragut High School.
Guests should bring a blanket or lawn chair for the outdoor screening.
Farragut’s movie is one stop in the Movies at the Museums fall lineup. Other screenings include “The Goonies” on Sept. 4 at Mabry-Hazen House; “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” on Sept. 11 at James White’s Fort; “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” on Sept. 25 at Blount Mansion; “Ghostbusters” on Oct. 2 at Marble Springs; and “Up” on Oct. 9 at Historic Westwood.
With a movie, vintage Volkswagens, museum time and a food truck, the Farragut evening offers families a chance to enjoy a September night outdoors — and perhaps introduce a new generation to Herbie.
