Eberle heads special ed; new principals for New Hopewell, Bonny Kate

Shelli Eberle has been appointed special education supervisor for Knox County Schools. She joined KCS in 2005 and has taught at Green Magnet Academy and New Hopewell Elementary School. She was named assistant principal of West Hills Elementary in 2012 and principal of Fort Sanders Educational Development Center in 2015. She also is supervisor of Child Find and preschool special education. She holds two degrees from the University of Tennessee in early childhood education and a specialist degree in administration from LMU.

Sarah Mercer is principal of New Hopewell Elementary School effective July 2023. She joined KCS in 2008 as a teacher at Beaumont Magnet Academy. She also worked as a magnet facilitator and numeracy coach while at Beaumont. In 2016, she became a TPaCK Coach at East Knox County Elementary School. She began her career in administration in 2020, when she was named assistant principal of A.L. Lotts Elementary School, where she currently serves. Her degrees are from Freed-Hardeman University and the University of Phoenix. She has an educational specialist degree from LMU.

Rocky Riley is principal of Bonny Kate Elementary effective July 2023. He joined KCS in 2001 as a teacher at South-Doyle and West high schools. In 2007, he became a curriculum supervisor for Career and Technical Education and was named assistant principal of West High in 2016. He has been an assistant principal at Career Magnet Academy and at South-Doyle Middle, where he currently serves. He holds a bachelor’s degree in human resource development from UT and a master’s in education from LMU.
