The Dining Duo visited an old community favorite in Halls Amber Restaurant, closed last winter, but reopened in March. In Halls for over 40 years and family owned, the new owners who are still family yet a different family have kept mostly the same menu of breakfast and lunch items with your country cooking basics for both. (Bobbie Padgett, joined by her husband, Don, founded the restaurant.)
Breakfast menus have a variety of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, biscuits & gravy, home fries, hash browns and of course, grits.
Lunch menu includes salads, burgers, variety of sandwiches, catfish, steak & gravy and vegetables.
Dinner is served on Thursday evenings only: liver &. onions, salmon patties and more.
The Dining Duo at lunch with one getting catfish and one the Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Both were very well prepared and tasty.
For a simple, friendly no frills country diner atmosphere with good food, try the Amber Restaurant in Halls, 6715 Maynardville Pike, 37918
Hours: Closed Wednesday. Open every day 7 a.m. -3 p.m. Thursday 5:30-8 p.m. Follow Amber Restaurant on Facebook for updated menus.
The Dining Duo is looking for the “hidden gem eateries “where the locals fill the breakfast and lunch hour; those local haunts tucked into the out of way or right on the way places missed in the hustle and bustle of the day. Email us your recommendations at email here.
