City of Knoxville employees will be back in Fountain City Lake starting today (8/27) to remove invasive plant species. They will be assisted by volunteer inmates from the Knox County Sheriff’s work release program. The project should take two weeks.
The current weed-removal work will involve a slight draw-down of the lake, then use of mechanical cutters and rakes to remove the invasive parrot feather weeds that are overwhelming the lake, said David Hagerman, city stormwater engineer. Download the full press release: 082619 Fountain City Lake.
