City of Knoxville employees will be back in Fountain City Lake starting today (8/27) to remove invasive plant species. They will be assisted by volunteer inmates from the Knox County Sheriff’s work release program. The project should take two weeks.

The current weed-removal work will involve a slight draw-down of the lake, then use of mechanical cutters and rakes to remove the invasive parrot feather weeds that are overwhelming the lake, said David Hagerman, city stormwater engineer.
