Who says pancakes are only for breakfast?

Fountain City Presbyterian Church is turning breakfast upside down — or at least moving it a few hours later — with a free Breakfast for Dinner on Thursday, Aug. 20.

The community is invited to stop by the church, 500 Hotel Road, anytime from 4:30-7 p.m. for pancakes and all the fixings. There is no charge, and everyone is welcome.

The evening is about more than filling a plate. It is another opportunity for neighbors to gather around a table, meet someone new and enjoy the kind of conversation that often happens best over a shared meal.

Fountain City Presbyterian has made fellowship and community outreach part of its ongoing ministry, including previous free pancake breakfasts that have welcomed neighbors to the church. The congregation describes itself as a “caring community of faith” with an emphasis on worship, service and fellowship.

Community meals can be simple things, but sometimes simple is exactly what is needed. A stack of pancakes, a cup of coffee and a seat at the table can provide a chance to slow down, catch up with an old friend or introduce yourself to someone you have never met.

No breakfast alarm clock is required for this one. Just bring your appetite and perhaps a neighbor.

Breakfast for Dinner is Thursday, Aug. 20, from 4:30-7 p.m. at Fountain City Presbyterian Church, 500 Hotel Road in Knoxville.
