Blount County physician dies at 98

Norman A. McKinnon Jr., M.D., died March 15 at age 98. He was a retired Maryville obstetrician-gynecologist who practiced at Blount Memorial Hospital for 40 years.

Along the way, Dr. McKinnon graduated from the University of Mississippi and received his medical degree from Tulane University. He spent four years of post-graduate training at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II.

In 1999, he was honored as one of the “teaching pioneers,” the original group of volunteer physicians who taught the resident physicians during the early years of the UT Medical Center. Additional obituary information is here.
