Nine Girl Scouts from the Knoxville area recently traded their hiking boots for passports as they embarked on the adventure of a lifetime in Costa Rica.
The high-adventure troop trip was nearly two years in the making, with the girls planning every step and using proceeds from Girl Scout cookie sales to help make the journey possible.
Their itinerary was packed with unforgettable experiences. They tackled whitewater rapids, kayaked scenic waterways, took surfing lessons, ziplined through the rainforest canopy, snorkeled in tropical waters and explored miles of hiking trails.
The adventure didn’t stop there. The troop relaxed in natural hot springs, learned to prepare local cuisine during a cooking class, toured a pineapple farm and a chocolate and coffee plantation, visited two volcanoes and a stunning waterfall, explored a cloud forest and even ventured into the jungle on a nighttime hike.
Along the way, they encountered some of Costa Rica’s most iconic wildlife, including sloths, toucans, scarlet macaws, howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys, anteaters, crocodiles, iguanas and countless other fascinating plants and animals.
The trip was more than just an exciting vacation. It was the culmination of years of planning, teamwork and determination, giving these local Girl Scouts the opportunity to experience another culture, challenge themselves and create memories they’ll carry with them for years to come.
