Nine-month-old Stardust is still learning that the world can be a safe and loving place. This retriever/lab mix may be shy at first, but behind those cautious eyes is a gentle, playful puppy just waiting for the right person to help her confidence bloom.

Recently, Stardust spent time in our community room with volunteers at the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley. At first, she was nervous, especially around sudden sounds and quick movements that made her jump. But little by little, she began to warm up. With patient voices and calm reassurance, volunteers eventually were able to pet her, even as their arms were stretched carefully toward her. It was a small moment, but a big victory for this sweet girl.

Stardust originally left HSTV with her brother, Ziggy, and spent six months in a home before both dogs found their way back to us through no fault of their own. One thing we always promise at HSTV is that once an animal enters our shelter, they will always have a place with us. Our animals always have a shelter home to return to.

While she can be timid with people, Stardust absolutely lights up around other dogs. She especially loves playing with Tory, another adoptable shelter dog here at HSTV. Watching her run, play, and forget her worries for a moment reminds us just how much potential she has.

Stardust is a quiet light waiting to shine brightly in someone’s life.

Additionally, the adoption fee is fully covered for the perfect Stardust family!

Pet Tip: Many shy dogs benefit from the 3-3-3 rule: the first 3 days are for decompressing, the first 3 weeks are for learning routines and building trust, and the first 3 months are when their true personality begins to shine. Patience, consistency, and understanding can make all the difference for a cautious pup adjusting to a new home.

Founded in 1885, Humane Society, Tennessee Valley is the longest-standing animal shelter in the State of Tennessee. A stand-alone 501 (c) (3) limited-admissions animal shelter, Humane Society, Tennessee Valley, receives no funding from national humane entities or government agencies; it relies solely on private donations and grant funding.
