Here’s a guide to the best youth-friendly happenings in the area from Wednesday, August 26, through Tuesday, September 1, and more.
- Wednesday, Aug. 26 — Library storytimes: Knox County Public Library branches have numerous morning programs, including Baby Bookworms at Norwood, Powell and Farragut; Toddler Storytime at Lawson McGhee, Bearden, Cedar Bluff, Halls and Karns; and Preschool Storytime at Howard Pinkston and South Knoxville. Most begin between 10 and 10:30 a.m.
- Thursday, Aug. 27 — Baby Bookworms: 10:30-11 a.m. at Lawson McGhee Library. Designed for infants through age 2 with singing, clapping, bouncing and other early-literacy activities with a parent or guardian.
- Friday, Aug. 28 — Construction Junction: Building for Young Engineers: 4-5 p.m. at Burlington Branch Library. Preschool and elementary-age children use building sets and books to explore engineering concepts in this STEM program.
- Friday, Aug. 28 — Tennessee Volleyball: The Lady Vols play Colgate at 7 p.m. at Food City Center, giving families and young sports fans a chance to see college volleyball.
- Monday, Aug. 31 — Curiosity Club: Knox County Rescue Medical/First Aid Team: 5-6 p.m. at Burlington Branch Library. The program is listed for elementary-age children and teens, with Curiosity Club primarily designed for ages 5-11.
Ongoing all week of August 26 – September 1. While not scheduled at fixed times for youth groups (unless you check individual organizations), these places are great options any day of the week — call ahead for specific hours & classes:
- Muse Knoxville is an interactive children’s museum with daily sessions.
- Zoo Knoxville is open daily; special feeds/talks may have times posted onsite.
- Fort Kid @ World’s Fair Park is a play area with general hours of operation.
- Knox County Public Library often has weekly story times, LEGO clubs, craft sessions, and teen gaming nights. Check their weekly calendar.
