On June 10, readers celebrate the birthday of Maurice Sendak, one of the most beloved creators of children’s books. Born in 1928, Sendak is best known for the classic Where the Wild Things Are, the story of Max and his adventure among the Wild Things.

Sendak also wrote and illustrated favorites such as In the Night Kitchen and Outside Over There. His stories captured children’s imaginations by exploring real emotions through memorable characters and beautiful artwork.

More than 60 years after Where the Wild Things Are was published, Maurice Sendak’s books continue to inspire readers and remind us of the power of imagination.

Look for this recommendations and other books at Knox County Online Library or your local independent bookstore each week or search Amazon if not offered at the library.

This weekly column delves into the enchanting world of children’s literature, spotlighting both beloved classics and emerging voices.
