You can always go …

A photograph taken with a telephoto lens will compress an image in a way that the eye does not. I painted Downtown from a photo that pulls more than eight blocks of cityscape into a few inches. That’s why this image may seem familiar but unsure. The other reason is that the perspective is from a hill on the south side of the Tennessee River.

This different look was the motive to paint this view. I love the street lamps that wind through Gay Street, the old brick, signs and the downtown hustle.

Photographer Chris and painter Robin Rohwer each week share a painting or photograph that captured their interest. They have a small studio and gallery in the Historic Phoenix Building, 418 South Gay Street. Their website is www.ChristopherRobinArts.com. All works are copyright protected.
