And because I can, I’ve printed candidates’ names in red (Republican) or blue (Democratic). Think Trump’s necktie if you forget which is which. And if I could find it, there’s a link to each candidate’s website or Facebook page. Just click on their name.

Lawsuit in District 18

One-term state Rep. Elaine Davis is being sued by her opponent, Bryan Goldberg, for an untrue attack piece online and in a mailer. Davis has not returned our call from a week ago to discuss this. Goldberg wants the website, created by an outside firm and paid for by the TN House Republican Caucus, taken down. His press release says any damages awarded as a result of the suit will be donated to local nonprofits.

Davis, who lives outside the city, is responsible for the city charter amendments on the November ballot, changing the method of electing members of Knoxville City Council. Nobody in city government requested the meddling.

Currently, Republicans have five members of Knox County’s seven-member House delegation, while Democrats have two. District 18 was the closest race in 2022 and is the most likely to “flip” in 2024.

Hurricane Helene

Tennessee’s congressional delegation is falling over itself to tour areas devastated by last week’s storm and yelling for federal assistance ASAP. They’re led by Sen. Marsha Blackburn, who is in a contested race for reelection to a second six-year term. Blackburn has averaged two+ press releases per day, since the storm. Here’s one: Marsha Blackburn release

Negotiators dropped Biden-requested funding for FEMA when the most recent bipartisan continuing resolution to keep government operating until December 20, 2024, was adopted. This report from Politico outlines Congress’s rush to start a six-week recess. These legislators still voted no.
