Weigel’s Stores has been named Convenience Store Decisions 2019 Chain of the Year.  The award was presented to long-time executive Bill Weigel at an awards dinner hosted at the Fox Theater in Atlanta.

Weigel was delighted to win the award, given the “great chains operating across the country.” He said it’s a tribute to the company founders and to “the great management and team members we have in our stores today. I call them heroes.”

The Chain of the Year Award honors a convenience store that has established itself as a superior retailer and innovator in its markets of operation. It is considered the gold standard in convenience store retailing. Weigel’s is the 30th recipient of the award, preceded by Kwik Trip in 2018 and Sheetz in 2017. Weigel’s is one of the smallest chains ever to have received this honor.

The Powell-based company hosted an appreciation event to thank its 1,000-plus team members. The day included a catered dinner, games and prizes. Each person also received a custom-designed T-shirt to commemorate receiving the award.

“It is truly a special day for me to honor you, for everything you have done to make this year the best year ever,” said Weigel. “I am so grateful Weigel’s has been recognized for providing excellent customer service. We thank you, and the commitment you bring to the stores each and every day. This award is a testament to your hard work and dedication.”
