Week 7 brought a key region victory for Gibbs, another dominant performance from unbeaten Powell and a rivalry shutout for Hardin Valley as Knoxville-area high school football moved into October.
Gibbs opened the week Thursday with a 41-29 Region 2-4A victory over Anderson County in Corryton. The Eagles entered the matchup with only one loss, to Alcoa, and picked up an important region win against an Anderson County team that had won four straight.
Hardin Valley also made a statement Thursday, shutting out rival Farragut 35-0. The Hawks improved to 5-2, while Farragut fell to 1-6.
Powell followed its 42-41 overtime escape at Central with a much less dramatic Friday night, rolling past Campbell County 62-19. The Panthers improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in district play.
Central bounced back from its one-point loss to Powell with a 42-20 victory over McMinn County. The Bobcats improved to 6-1.
Halls continued its turnaround with a 49-14 win over Karns. After opening the season 0-4, the Red Devils have won three straight.
Oak Ridge handled Bearden 48-10, while Maryville defeated Cookeville 38-7. West earned a 41-3 region win at Clinton.
Heritage won the Battle of the Bell in convincing fashion, blanking William Blount 35-0. Kayden Filipo rushed for more than 180 yards in the rivalry victory, according to 5Star Preps.
Webb broke into the win column with a 34-14 victory over Notre Dame after opening the season with six losses. CAK remained unbeaten with a 27-10 win over Chattanooga Christian.

Looking ahead
Week 8 is lighter for many of the Knoxville-area teams that have been featured throughout the season, with several programs getting an open week before the schedule picks up again Oct. 15-16.
Among the games on the Oct. 8-9 schedule, Karns travels to Morristown East on Thursday, while Grace Christian hosts Sevier County. Austin-East travels to Gatlinburg-Pittman on Friday.
