Week 6 delivered two of the season’s best Knoxville-area finishes, with Powell surviving Central in overtime and CAK holding off Webb by three points.
The Thursday night showdown between unbeaten Powell and Central lived up to its billing. Powell erased a 15-point halftime deficit and defeated Central 42-41 in overtime. The Panthers tied the game at 35 late in regulation, then Central missed a field-goal attempt that would have won it. Powell scored first in overtime, and a missed Central extra point provided the final margin. Powell improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in Region 2-5A, while Central fell to 5-1 and 3-1 in the region.
Friday produced another close one between two Knoxville private schools. CAK stayed unbeaten with a 35-32 victory over Webb. The Spartans led 17-9 at halftime, but the Warriors rallied in the second half and improved to 6-0. Webb fell to 0-6, though the three-point loss was its closest game since a one-point defeat to Silverdale earlier this season.
The Bearden-Farragut rivalry was decided by defense as Farragut earned its first win of the season, 10-0. Austin-East won a 42-35 battle at Kingston, while Greenback edged Eagleton, 14-12. Seymour also slipped past Cherokee, 28-27, and Midway defeated Harriman, 21-19.
Elsewhere around the Knoxville area, Halls continued its turnaround with a 42-10 region win over West. After opening the season with four losses, the Red Devils have now won two straight. Oak Ridge defeated Bradley Central 47-27, Maryville topped Hardin Valley 45-20, and Gibbs beat Lenoir City 42-14.

Two other games stand out: unbeaten CAK travels to Chattanooga Christian, while Webb hosts Notre Dame. South-Doyle gets a major test at home against Alcoa, and Maryville hosts Cookeville.
Powell and CAK leave Week 6 unbeaten, but both were pushed to the final moments this week — a reminder that the second half of the high school football season may be considerably less predictable than the first.
