Unstoppable Angel Spratling’s journey towards her dream

Susan EspirituOur Town Neighbors, West Knox County

Angel Spratling is a mother, a chef and a woman with a dream of owning her own food truck. Although, she recently competed in the Taste of Home competition with the grand prize of $25,000, Angel came in third place out of 92 contestants so she does not receive any money for the accomplishment. She says, “It was a great experience and I am proud of myself,” and this dreamer is one who will stay determined to reach it.

Angel has two inspirations to be a chef. First, she is inspired to cook by her grandmother who raised her and as she exclaims, “Boy could she cook, but she didn’t allow me in the kitchen.” Now that Angel has learned to cook, she credits her role as mother to a special needs child as her current inspiration to carry on that family legacy.

Angel receiving her culinary arts degree

While earning her culinary arts degree from Pellissippi State Community College, Angel’s favorite dish helped her pass her breakfast practical and is a favorite of her community: sweet potato pancakes with crispy chicken bites will be on the menu of her future food truck.

For now, Angel grows her clientele through catering as she looks for other avenues to reach the goal of securing her food truck and works through the YMCA and the East Tennessee Collaborative to continue her road to success.

I look forward to a “Taste of Angel’s Home” on her future dream truck realized.
