Julia Tucker was one of the stars at the annual Positively Living “People of Courage” luncheon May 8 at The Foundry. This is a major fundraising event for Positively Living, which provides services for people with HIV/AIDS, homelessness, mental illness, addiction and disabilities.

The Julia Tucker Award, one of the major honors bestowed at the luncheon, went to the Hope Center. Tucker was an early sponsor of Positively Living following the death of her son, Bill Powell. The second annual Robert Braddock Survivor Award went to Rhonda Daies.

Scott Fried, an adjunct professor at Colby College who lives in New York City, gave the main address. He has written three books and been published in numerous periodicals and newspapers, talking about HIV/AIDS and his own life story.

Afterwards, officeholders stopped to speak to Tucker. She is pictured with Kelly Burchett’s new puppy, Charlie. Tucker served with Tim Burchett’s father, Charlie Burchett, on the old city school board.
