Glover to Gresham; 19 schools have new principals

Melissa Glover has been appointed principal of Gresham Middle School effective July 2022. She replaces longtime principal Donna Parker who was named secondary staffing supervisor earlier this month. Although this is Glover’s first stint as head principal, she has worked in administration under some of Knox County’s finest. After teaching for 10 years at Farragut High School, she has served as an assistant principal at Powell High, Austin-East High and currently at Hardin Valley Middle. Glover received a bachelor’s degree in history, a master’s degree in education, both from The University of Tennessee, as well as an education specialist degree in instructional leadership from Tennessee Tech University.

Dr. Erin Phillips from Middle Tennessee has been appointed executive director of learning and literacy for KCS. She has had a variety of experiences, including her current job as director of curriculum and instruction for Bedford County Schools. Bedford County is south of Rutherford County and operates nine elementary schools, four middle schools and three high schools. She has been principal of an elementary school; assistant principal of Cason Lane Academy, one of 13 schools operated by the city of Murfreesboro; and a reading coach consultant for the Tennessee Department of Education. Dr. Phillips received a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies K-6, a master’s reading specialist degree, and an educational specialist degree in administration and supervision, all from Middle Tennessee State University, as well as a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of the Cumberlands.

Kristi Phillips has been appointed special education supervisor for KCS. She joined Knox County Schools in 2003 as a teacher at Northwest Middle School. She also served as a TAP mentor teacher at Northwest Middle. She began her career in administration in 2010 when she was appointed assistant principal at Bearden Middle School. She has been an assistant principal at L&N STEM Academy and at Ridgedale. In 2019, she was named principal of Ridgedale. Phillips received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in educational leadership, both from Carson-Newman University.

  • Jennifer Garrett, from principal of elementary virtual schools for KCS to principal of K-12 virtual schools.
  • Kimberly Harris from assistant principal at Northshore to principal at Bonny Kate
  • Laicee Hatfield, from principal of KCS secondary virtual schools to principal at Karns High School
  • Jennifer Hemmelgarn, an attorney, is now the interim assistant superintendent of business and talent.
  • Dr. Susan Hutton, from principal of Dare Elementary in Yorktown, North Carolina, to principal at Brickey-McCloud ES.
  • Kristen Jackson from assistant principal to principal at West Hills Elementary.
  • Lynn Jacomen from principal at Inskip ES to principal at Hardin Valley ES.
  • Alicia Jones, from special education coordinator in Georgia to director of student success.
  • Dr. Karen Loy, from principal at Northwest Middle School to director of special education.
