The ‘dean’ of county commission has died

Billy G. Tindell Sr., age 88, passed away at home on March 11, 2022.

A Democrat in a mostly Republican county, Mr. Tindell had a long and productive career on the Knox County Commission, serving from 1970-2007. He left only when voter-approved term limits were implemented.

He served briefly as Knox County Clerk, and was a president of the Tennessee County Services Association. An avid golfer, he was instrumental in the creation and construction of Three Ridges Golf Course. His son, Harry J. Tindell, represented Knox County in the Tennessee General Assembly from 1990 to 2012.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Rose Mortuary on Broadway, in the heart of the district he represented. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Ronnie Dotson officiating. Interment will be private. Additional obituary information is here.
