The Greater Knoxville Area Stroke Support Group known as Folks with Strokes held its annual painting workshop on Tuesday, March, 12, 2024 at Tennova Family YMCA, 7540 Dannaher Drive, led by Knoxville artist Terry Chandler.

Chandler taught stroke-survivor participants how to create a beautiful landscape using acrylic paints and palette knives, while volunteer Nancy Webb assisted with set up, distributing paint, providing encouragement and cleaning afterwards.

Terry Chandler has been a professional artist for over 50 years and is known for his scenes of the Smoky Mountains.

This is one of the most popular events the group hosts for its members, and all materials were generously donated by Chandler.

The Folks with Strokes group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Tennova Family YMCA.

The group’s free membership is open for stroke survivors, their families or caregivers to offer support, encouragement and fellowship. The group offers a variety of programs designed to help members gain more enjoyment in their lives. For additional information, contact Kerry Jones, president, at 865-924-3420. The group also has a private Facebook page: Folks with Strokes of Greater Knoxville where you may request to join.
