Adventurous superheroes and lovable mascots will lend their support to a fundraiser for East Tennessee Children’s Hospital this weekend.

The first-ever Epic Event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at United Grocery Outlet, 4225 Chapman Highway.

In addition to cosplayers in superhero garb, mascot critters such as Homer the Hound (Tennessee Smokies), Chilly Bear (Knoxville Ice Bears), the Coca-Cola Polar Bear, Shoney Bear (Shoney’s restaurants), Merle the Squirrel (Merle FM) and Andy the Armadillo (Texas Roadhouse) will be on hand to pose for photos. The Mayfield Cow will also lend its massive presence to the proceedings.

Specialty cars such as the General Lee and Sheriff Rosco Coltrane’s cruiser from “The Dukes of Hazzard,” the “Ghostbusters” Ecto 1 and a special new-release vehicle will be on site. Food vendors include Friends BBQ and Yummies.

ETCH will receive funds from raffles and collections, and vendors will donate part of their earnings.
