Aaron Wright, subbing for John Becker, made us proud. Aaron spent a summer at the old newspaper, helping with our interns. Great guy!
Superintendent Bob Thomas, panelist Dennis Francis and Wright seemed low energy though, and the show was a bit of a snooze-fest.
Tip: On the week when the 30-year Member of Congress announces his retirement, boot Thomas after the second break and let the pundits pund. Francis is best when he’s spontaneous, and Lance Baker seemed ready to talk about anything.
Rep. Jimmy Duncan was the guest on Tennessee This Week. Asked if he would endorse Tim Burchett as his successor, Duncan deflected the question with the observation that Burchett was the only candidate “who could not have attacked me as a career politician.”
George Korda called Duncan’s decision “sad but understandable.”
Mike Cohen said candidate Jimmy Matlock “will be absolutely bulldozed by Burchett.”
And Korda said it will be a race to the right with each candidate saying, “I’m more conservative than that guy.
