South Knoxville STEM Center opens at Vestal

Susan EspirituSouth Knox

In November, I wrote about TVA and the Cal Ripken Foundation funding 27 STEM centers across seven states and on Friday, January 26, the South Knoxville STEM Center was officially opened at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley’s Vestal Club.

Children there now have access to modern, state-of-the-art curriculum and tools for education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Click video for recorded interviews with Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. and Jeannette Mills, TVA executive vice president and chief external relations officer, discussing the opening of a center in Tupelo, Mississippi, but the information also applies to each of the 27 centers being funded by the foundation and TVA, including this one in Vestal.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was just the first of other ribbon cuttings to open similar centers in neighboring communities of Sweetwater, Oneida and Chattanooga.
