Today is Mayor Indya Kincannon’s South Knoxville open house. You don’t have to live in South Knox to attend. Meetings are open to all.

South Knoxville meeting is Monday, Feb. 13, from 4-6:30 p.m. at Kerbela Temple, 315 Mimosa Avenue. Projects to be addressed include:

  • Sevier Avenue streetscapes
  • South Waterfront Form-Based Code
  • Urban Wilderness Gateway Park
  • Pedestrian/Bicycle Bridge across the Tennessee River

The North Knoxville meeting was Thursday, Feb. 9, at Fulton High School Library. Projects addressed included:

  • The city’s Public Safety Complex project, including greenspace opportunities and redevelopment concept ideas for the historic St. Mary’s building
  • Lincoln Memorial University Tower and programs
  • Fulton’s “Public Service” academy in collaboration with the city
  • First Creek Greenway and Christenberry Playground details
  • Woodland Avenue updates

I attended this meeting and hope to attend tonight. The energy at Fulton High was electric. I saw city council members Andrew Roberto, Charles Thomas and Lauren Rider. Others may have been there.

Unexpected but noted were the number of former city officials present including long-time council member Larry Cox and former director of public service and later redevelopment Bob Whetsel.
