Sherry Witt kicked off her campaign for re-election as Knox County clerk with a May 12 reception at Chesapeake’s Restaurant on Parkside Drive.

Rural Metro Fire will officially open its new Corryton station at 11 a.m. today (5/14). An open house will continue until 1 p.m. and everyone is invited. The new firehall is at 7701 Corryton Road, next to the Corryton Post Office. This is a relocation from the facility located next to the Corryton Community Center.

Washington Pike expansion plans are the topic as the city of Knoxville’s Office of Neighborhoods will host a meeting from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at the New Harvest Park community room. People may come at any time, said coordinator Debbie Sharp.

Weigel’s Stores is celebrating its 90th anniversary through Aug. 1. It will highlight daily prizes for Weigel’s guests and employees, with a special birthday celebration on June 18 storewide.  “It is such an honor to have our vendors support this special milestone in Weigel’s history,” said Bill Weigel. The vendor participation will contribute Jeep Wranglers, 28 70-inch TVs, PS5’s, new Xbox’s, and hundreds of other prizes for the celebration.

Powell Republican Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 20, at Shoney’s Restaurant on Emory Road at I-75. This is the first meeting since the Covid shutdown.
