Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler said Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has scheduled treatments. I have complete confidence in my medical team and the treatment plan. I’m grateful the cancer was caught early, and the prognosis is excellent, he wrote. Spangler letter to Community

He assured citizens that the day-to-day operations of the sheriffs office would not be disrupted. Spangler plans to work while undergoing treatment, but said he will not be able to attend community events.

Missing community events will be difficult, but I understand it is crucial (to protect his immune system during treatment). With that said, I will remain active and working inside the sheriffs office.

Spangler was elected in 2018 and reelected in 2022. He requested privacy during the treatment period.
