Services Wednesday for Leon Smartt

The life of Leon Smartt, Tennessee guard and linebacker of the late 1950s, will be celebrated on Wednesday afternoon at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Smartt, 83, of Ooltewah, died on Sunday. He is survived by Faye Jones Smartt, his wife of 59 years, and son Ray Smartt and daughter Julie McKamey.

Leon was an avid Civil War relic hunter, enjoyed growing his own crops and loved to hunt and fish. He traveled widely, including to Russia. He and Faye visited 49 states. They once camped in Alaska for five weeks.

Smartt was born in McMinnville. He was a graduate of Soddy Daisy High School and the University of Tennessee. His work career was with Roadway Express Trucking. He was a longtime member of East Brainerd Church of Christ. Additional obituary information here.
