Richard A. “Dick” Wellons, 78, of Sevierville, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023.
Mr. Wellons was the executive director of Smoky Mountain Area Rescue Ministries for 20 years before retiring in 2020. His entire life was devoted to the ministry. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pigeon Forge and Leadership Sevier, among other civic organizations. He chaired the Tennessee Valley Homeless Coalition. He was a member of the Army-National Guard while he was living in Tampa, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Lyda Wellons; four children and their families. The full obituary is here.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today (05/16/23) with service to follow in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, at East TN Veterans Cemetery, John Sevier Highway, for graveside service and interment.
