Services Thursday for Sevier County educator

Max Watson loved the Smoky Mountains, calling his home “the most beautiful place on earth.”

Mr. Watson passed away on August 27, 2023, at age 88. He worked for 37 years as a teacher and school principal. He built the Creekside Motel in Gatlinburg in 1965 and operated it until 2000. He was a native of Gatlinburg who lived in Wears Valley. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He hiked to the top of Mt. LeConte on 10 different occasions.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, at First Baptist Church, Sevierville. A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. Mr. Watson’s full obituary is here.
