Services this week for U.K. Mynatt

Sandra ClarkObits, West Knoxville

U.K. Mynatt was the go-to guy in Knox County politics for the better part of a century. Most recently, before his retirement, he was the beer inspector, working for Knox County Commission, sitting as the Beer Board.

In this role, Mr. Mynatt knew the businesspeople outside the city who held a license to sell beer – both on- and off-premises. He was tough on those caught selling to minors, and nobody before or since worked harder.

He died on Oct. 27, 2023, at age 95.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 5-7 p.m. with the funeral service at 7 at Weaver Funeral Home with Chaplain Pam Neal officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 3, at Weaver Funeral Home and travel in procession to New Gray Cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service.

Mr. Mynatt was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Maples Mynatt; parents, Ulyes K. and Belva L. Maples Mynatt; and sister, Iva Jane Mynatt Thompson. The full obituary is here.
