Services set for Neva McNeely

The last remaining member of The Mehaffey Sisters trio is dead.

Geneva Lillian Mehaffey McNeely, a lifelong resident of Powell, passed away Aug. 21 at her home. For more than 30 years, she was a member of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The pastor, Thomas Sweet, will conduct her service at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. She will be buried at the Woodhaven Memorial Gardens on Sunday, Aug. 26, at 2 p.m.

Known as Neva, Mrs. McNeely, 93, played mandolin and sang in harmony with her two older sisters. They performed on the WNOX Mid-Day Merry-Go-Round and were invited by Roy Acuff to perform in Nashville. According to the obituary, their parents squcheled that idea.

Mrs. McNeely graduated from Clinton High School. Read her lyrical obituary here. She was predeceased by sisters Lucille Flynn and Glenna Beals; brother, Charles Mehaffey. She leaves two children and two grandchildren.
