Services Saturday for Megan May, DVM

Sandra ClarkObits, West Knox County

Megan Ellison Jean May, DVM, passed away on August 20, 2023, after a short but fierce battle against a rare form of cancer. She was just 34. Her parents must have written these words: “She will be in our memories as an amazing and accomplished woman. We will miss our baby girl forever.”

To achieve her dream of being a veterinarian, Dr. May delayed “adulting” until she finished school: high school, 2007; bachelor’s degree, 2011; master’s degree 2012; doctorate, 2016, internship, 2017. She was fluent in French and excelled at tennis. Her next dream was buying a house with a big yard for her rescue pups.

She moved to Knoxville to be close to family during the Covid pandemic, working at Animal Emergency & Specialty Center as an emergency room veterinarian. And that dream of owning a home came true in 2022. She was personalizing each room when she first became sick in March of 2023.

The obituary concludes: “Megan’s will to survive was fierce as she fought so hard to overcome the cancer. She researched possible clinical trials looking for any advantage against the disease, but Megan became very tired and was unable to continue the fight. She is now resting in the arms of Jesus.”

Services honoring and remembering Dr. Megan May will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 2, at Shoreline Church. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
